Forum Dweller Fights for the Truth

Not long ago I was browsing a golf forum online.

Occasionally from time to time I’ll wander over to the forums and just for hits and giggles see what’s going on with the golfing masses.

What got my attention on this occasion however was that a forum participant had posted a thread which was a complete rant and sleight on his fellow golfers.

He was basically ranting and complaining about how other golfers tend to tell bare faced lies when it comes to how far they hit the ball, and how much it affected him.

Poor boy.

He was getting very hot under the collar, particularly when some of the participants were chiming in and telling him how far they were hitting the ball.

I could only imagine how big their noses were growing as they were typing their replies to the thread.

Our poor fella ended up getting into an outright flare up with one other guy.

Most amusing.

It made me chuckle hard because there is more than an element of truth in this.

I’ve witnessed it first hand as golfers have stood there and told more lies than those who occupy the seats in Westminster or Capitol Hill.

The amount of times I’ve stood on a lesson tee and listened to someone harp on about how far they can hit the driver only to witness first hand that in fact they are dreaming  and will never carry the ball 250 yards.

But what’s this got to do with you and your golf game I hear ye complain.

Well quite a lot.

You see judging distance is a very important skill, as it allows you to finish pin high. Finish pin high with your approach shots and your never really that far from the hole giving you a good shout at sinking the putt.

So knowing how far you hit the ball on a consistent basis is very important and there is no point in kidding yourself.

Now here’s the thing, there’s a very simple yet subtle mistake that most golfers make when it comes to judging the right distance and picking the right club. In fact it’s so subtle that I’m not sure 1 in 100 golfers even realise they do this.

And guess what, it’s covered in one of the lessons in the “9 Ways to Lower Your Handicap & Shoot Your Best Round Ever” e-book that is available free on this site.
