“You gotta dance with the lady you bought to the party” – Lee Trevino
Way back when I used to give a lot of lessons, when I was a young pro in short trousers and a spikey hair cut (I still teach but only for certain clients who meet my strict criteria), it never ceased to amaze me how people always wanted something different.
If a bloke or woman turned up for a lesson with a fade they would want a draw, if they turned up with a draw, they wanted a fade.
Apparently the grass is always greener on the other side.
It’s not.
More.
Playing with a shape, either a fade or a draw is how the game is played. Some of the all-time greats, if you look hard enough at their teachings, will tell you the hardest shot in golf to hit is the straight shot.
The point being, what you really want, is something that you can rely on ten times out of ten. If you start the ball to the left, it moves back to the right, if it starts to the ball to the right it moves back to the left.
That’s control, control allows you to plan your way around the golf course, control gives you certainty and certainty gives you confidence.
As Lee Trevino said, “you have to dance with the lady you bought to the party”, trying to do anything different only gets you in trouble (both on the golf course and at parties!).
Your shape is like your finger print, your gonna have a hard time changing it, if you ever can. You could spend years trying to hit it the other way to what you do now. Far better off just playing with what you have and learning to repeat that and control it.
If you’re trying to build a repeatable swing, one that allows you to enjoy the game without having to think of a hundred and one different things check out my free guide “9 Ways To Lower Your Handicap and Shoot Your Best Round Ever” . It will help you make the most of that simple and effortless swing your building and will leave your playing partners gobsmacked check it out at this link here.
